Outcomes

GRACEFUL (GRavimetry, mAgnetism, rotation and CorE FLow) is an ERC Synergy Grant funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The project combines observations of Earth’s gravity field, magnetic field, and rotation with advanced numerical modelling to investigate the dynamics of the fluid, iron-rich outer core. By integrating these complementary datasets, GRACEFUL aims to improve our understanding of the processes governing core flow and its role in shaping Earth’s internal dynamics.

I work on the GRACEFUL project as a science communicator, developing and implementing communication strategies to translate complex research on Earth’s deep interior into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences, including researchers, early-career scientists, decision-makers, and the general public.

As science communicator for the GRACEFUL project, I developed a rich and diverse portfolio of outreach products designed to bring cutting-edge Earth science to a wide range of audiences. I continuously updated the project’s website, ensuring clear, accessible, and engaging communication throughout the project’s lifetime.

I produced 28 short interview films featuring GRACEFUL researchers and early-career scientists, giving voice to the people behind the science, as well as a full documentary presenting the project’s scientific goals, results, and human dimension. To reach younger audiences, I wrote the script for an animated film aimed at children around 13 years old and co-authored a comic book(BD) introducing the project’s key scientific concepts to children aged around 7.

Most recently, I led the preparation of the GRACEFUL application for the ERC Public Engagement with Research Award, bringing together and showcasing the full range of outreach and engagement activities developed throughout the project.
