Hello, I am

Katia J. Pinheiro

Science Communicator

Science communication and outreach professional with over 15 years of experience in international research environments. I lead, manage, and produce international communication and outreach projects, including audiovisual storytelling, digital media, and public engagement initiatives for research organisations and diverse scientific communities, with a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in science.

My Career

After completing my PhD at ETH Zurich (Switzerland), I worked at the Observatório Nacional (Brazil), where I combined research activities with the coordination of a national scientific observatory network, including strategic planning, infrastructure development, production of open data, and international collaborations. During this period, I also carried out postdoctoral research at LPG-Nantes (France).

Alongside my research career, I progressively developed a strong engagement in science communication, supported by professional training in audiovisual production. I later worked at GFZ Potsdam (Germany), focusing on open geophysical data and contributing to international data repositories, while also leading communication initiatives for international scientific organizations such as the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG).

I am currently a science communicator at CNES (Centre National d’Études Spatiales, France), based at ISTerre (Grenoble), where I collaborate with the Geodynamo research group. I design and implement outreach and communication strategies for international research projects, translating complex scientific research into accessible narratives for diverse audiences.

My Selected Projects

I translate scientific research into clear, engaging stories that connect scientists, institutions, and society.
